What is the Collection?

D.L Hansen is one of the most influential people in the numismatic world; Coin World's publication thinks so, but his Collection demands so. A collector from Utah, Mr. Hansen began collecting Whitman albums as a kid. Like many collectors, he took a break from coins as a young adult to launch his career and start a family.

Today, Mr. Hansen is a businessman who is active in many different ventures. He founded the Wasatch Group in 1988, a real estate organization that manages a multi-million dollar portfolio along with many other venture businesses.

Over the last decade, Mr. Hansen re-emersed himself in numismatics, building the most complete collection of U.S. coins ever assembled. The goal was to build a collection of regular-issue, circulation strike U.S. coins from 1792 to Present, with a focus on the highest quality possible. In that time, Mr. Hansen has not only eclipsed the Eliasberg Collection (the only other private collector to attempt such a fete) in terms of quality, but he has practically completed the goal as the collection continues to grow every year.

However, Mr. Hansen did not feel the Collection was complete without the confidence that comes from CAC certification. Though many of his coins bear CAC stickers, Mr. Hansen committed to crossing his Collection over to CAC Grading holders, abandoning the prior third-party certification services.

Why?

In short, because he wanted a Collection of accurately graded coins that he would be happy to end up in the hands of the next generation of collectors.

Why cross a collection worth hundreds of millions of dollars when it was already certified by a leading grading service? Simply put, because it wasn't certified by CAC.

Where Premier Coins Find Their True Value

This historic move to CAC holders underscores the trust D.L. Hansen has in CAC Grading and his outlook on the future of the standard in coin grading. While CAC graded coins (often referred to as "CACG" coins) are newer to the market than those of other major grading services, he is confident that CACG coins will be the pinnacle of value, even more so than CAC stickered coins. That is, there is a strong belief that the best coins and collections will end up crossing to CACG. He is just happy to be one of the first.
